About The Tide
A modern concept usually found in big cities, with all the qualities a small fishing village in Lofoten has to offer.
About us
Whether you choose to stay in picturesque fisherman’s cabins or in one of our modern double rooms, you will be surrounded by spectacular natural attractions.
Sørvågen is an active fishing village on Moskenesøya at the outermost point of Lofoten, and has been built up around its proximity to the sea. Here people live close to the natural elements, in a culture created over many years by fishermen. Lofotveggen and the iconic mountain, Støvla, tower in the background. There is a clear view over the sea towards the Norwegian mainland, Vestfjorden and the famous Moskstraumen maelstrom.
This place has been described by many as a true gem in Lofoten, and experiences stand in line for those who enjoy top trips, RIB Safari, SUP, Northern Lights Safari, kayaking, bike rides, or fishing. Along the quay we find traditional wooden architecture, the fish reception centre and fishing boats. You will also find here the classic fisherman’s cabins where you can spend the night, some of which are still used for their original purpose by professional fishermen. Here you’ll find everything that Lofoten is known for concentrated in one place.
Sustainability
The Tide is a modern hotel that creates strong impressions with small footprints, and therefore views sustainability and environmental work as a continuous process. As an Eco-Lighthouse certified company, we commit to monitoring and reducing water consumption, energy consumption, waste production and avoiding single-use plastics. Our sustainability strategy involves skills enhancement, as well as changing methods and principles in practical implementation, and replacing plastics with more sustainable products.
History
Owners of The Tide are Mariann Benonisen and Stein-Tore Johansen. They both grew up in fishing families from Lofoten, with long traditions from Værøy and Sørvågen. With great respect for the history that has shaped the place, they are at the same time concerned with development. By looking to the future. The Tide is a modern concept usually found in big cities, with all the qualities a small fishing village in Lofoten has to offer.
The landscape that surrounds us changes with the flow of the tides, and the ebb and flow represent a disturbance in what is constant. The Tide is about just this, experiencing Lofoten in a new way where fantastic natural attractions go hand in hand with modern aesthetics and design.
Welcome to The Tide!
